Pre-K Academy at West Avenue
When you walk into the Pre-K Academy at West Avenue, you feel a little like Alice in Wonderland because everything is so tiny. It’s a special, welcoming campus in the North East ISD school district that is just for the little ones. Three and four-year-olds to be exact and of course their amazing adult staff. You can tell Teresa Bernal-Martinez, librarian and RootEd Rep, loves being on campus, and you can see through her eyes how special this school is for the students and staff alike! Every single student wave “Hi” to her as she gives RootEd a tour of campus.
Pre-K at West Avenue is a full-day opportunity for 3- & 4-year-olds to go to a school that is geared toward their play and education. Everything is just their size from the cafeteria tables to the bathrooms. The children have naptime and reading time and everything in between. The giant library is full of board books and books for the teachers and volunteers to read to them every day. Their artwork is covering the hallway walls which one can only assume is also covering their homes, too!
The purposeful playtime opportunities are in abundance in this school. They have a grocery store where the children love to wheel around their babies and shop. There is a colorful farm to learn about animals. Outside is a wonderland of imagination. There is a mud kitchen to create “delicious” meals. A water play area and a path to ride tricycles for the little adventurers.
Pre-K Academy at West Avenue has so many educational opportunities for these 3- and 4-year-olds guided by early-education certified, degreed teachers. There’s a sensory room, a Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) room, music, PE, dual language…so much going on that it makes you want to go back to preschool! The school gets the children ready for kindergarten with evidence-based curriculum and also gives them a safe place to love learning.
